Opposition should come clean on National Parks - 21 February 2006

Greens MLC Ian Cohen today criticised Opposition spokesperson Andrew Stoner for his attacks on the new National Parks additions announced yesterday.

“Mr Stoner’s attacks on the Greens and the extra National Park areas are misplaced and will not go down well in the community,” Mr Cohen said.

“His comments have also raised concerns about what plans the Opposition has for NSW National Parks.

“It is time for the Opposition to commit to keeping all NSW National Parks intact if they win next year’s election.

“If Peter Debnam and Andrew Stoner were to promise not to revoke any National Parks they would be congratulated by me and would no doubt earn kudos at the ballot box.

“NSW needs to be building on its parks and reserve system and any fudging on the issue by Liberals and Nationals will see a backlash from the NSW population,” Mr Cohen said.
