Ian Cohen, Greens New South Wales Upper House Member, says that people protesting the Rally have been demonised by reports of rock throwing.
“The media is reporting that protesters were throwing rocks but there is no proof, no evidence and no-one has been arrrested. The protest has been non-violent and peaceful.”
“ We have holding been up our little finger – the gesture from the State Government’s Speeding: No one thinks big of you campaign – to let people know that this event is contary to the messages of safe driving and presents unsafe driving as an acceptable ‘sport’.”
“ This rally is trashing the environment and destroying the peace of people’s homes. It is tearing through World Heritage listed areas in the Spring at peak breeding time for animals, many of them vulnerable or threatened species.”
“Added to that, the cultural heritage of the local indigenous people has not been properly considered.”
“ This area, known as the Green Cauldron - is one of the most Biodiverse areas in the world – if there was ever a fit place to run a car rally through, this is not it.”
