In a beach side event on the NSW coast this morning, the Greens marked the first anniversary of the Tsunami tragedy.
Greens MLC Ian Cohen and Greens Mayor Jan Barham together with swimmers and surfers sent a wreath out to sea at Byron Bay.
Ian Cohen was in Sri Lanka when the Tsunami struck last year and helped with reconstruction and aid projects. The Byron Bay community has been a major contributor to those efforts.
“I think many Australians are today taking a moment of reflective introspection in an effort to comprehend the enormity of what unfolded a year ago. They can also be proud of their ongoing efforts to assist those affected by the disaster,” Mr Cohen said.
