“The community of Grenfell and surrounds is rightly concerned about the impact of this ‘Geomelt’ facility that could have a 80 metre high smoke stack and a 3km exclusion zone,” Mr Cohen said.
“Nearby farmers are worried that their clean green produce is at risk.
“Grenfell is at the epicentre of one of this state’s great farming districts. Located between Young, Cowra and Forbes, the produce from this area is awesome. Fruit, lamb, wool, and wheat just to name a few.
“Organic farmers will be particularly worried that their hard won organic certification status could be tarnished.
“Residents’ meetings have shown an overwhelming majority of the local population opposed to the toxic incinerator but the local council is continuing to consider the scheme.
“Highly toxic waste would be trucked or transported by rail hundreds of kilometres from Sydney through vast sensitive farmland and residential areas to reach Grenfell.
“The Greens are asking that the Minister join them in helping the local community stop this unwanted project,” Mr Cohen said.
